Title: Make It Last

Author: Megan Erickson

Published Date: January 6, 2014

My Rating: FIVE GOLDEN STARS

Synopsis: After graduating from Bowler University, the last place Cam Ruiz ever expected to find himself is his hometown. A bad job as a bouncer and worry over his mom’s health make living in Paradise anything but. There’s only one thing that can make his return any harder—running into the only girl he’s ever loved.

Tate Ellison made a mistake when she was eighteen, one that cost her the best thing she’s ever had. She’s always hoped the regret of losing Cam would fade over time. Too bad it’s only grown. She took comfort in the fact she’d never have to face him again, so his presence in Paradise throws her for a loop.

The pull between them is instant and when the truth of what happened years ago tumbles out, they share a mind-blowing kiss...which leads to more. But the past has a way of repeating itself. When all the cards are on the table, Cam and Tate must decide what they are willing to do to make it last.

My Review:
Where to begin? I don't even know. I can't even think coherently. I don't think I'll be able to put my thoughts on this blog and have it make sense, but let's try.

Let me say this now. I procrastinated when I came to this book. It's because I didn't want this series to end. One of my favorite series involving my favorite characters of last year was coming to an end and I didn't want it to happen! I would read one page and go "nope. nope. I can't" and then I would close out of the kindle app and distract myself with Netflix. I will admit that it worked for a while until the date that my review needed to be posted neared.
I should have known from Megan's previous books how I would react when I read her new one. But I am stupid and apparently hate my self. Here is why:
*Wednesday*
Me: Oh I'll start it tonight and if I fall asleep I still have Thursday to finish it
*Midnight*
Me: I should probably stop watching Parks and Rec and get to reading... one more episode.
*12:40am*
Me: LET'S DO THIS. [Starts flailing because I'm about to get into Cam's head]
Continues reading and ends up finishing the book around 5:30 am (an hour and a half before I am supposed to wake up to get ready for the day).
MEGAN, I SURVIVED THURSDAY WITH LESS THAN TWO HOURS. I swear, the things I do when I come across a can't-put-down-until-I'm-finished book will some day kill me.
If me getting almost no sleep doesn't tell you how good Make It Last is, here's to hoping my legit review does it.

Vangie's legit review:
As the reader, it felt really good going back into a world that I loved. For Cam, on the other hand, was a whole other story; he has some problems and going back to his small world is going to bring up a lot of them.
My favorite part of Make It Last and the Bowler University series was the visible transformation of Cam. If you haven't read the previous books, all that needs to be known is that Cam was a player that has some internal problems. With MiL, I was unsurprised on how relatable I felt to Cam. Being Hispanic, we are not thought of as having successful futures/careers. There's this line in Cam's POV:
"College had been some of the best years of his life...But now it felt like a blip, like a week vacation instead of three and a half years. And now he was right back where he started."
That line right there resonated with me. I have that fear of doing amazing thing in college, but once it's over having to come back home when it's all said and done, and coming up still at the bottom when so many people expected more from me. In that moment I knew exactly how Cam and Tate felt.
I will say that in our introduction to Tate I was a little hesitant about her. Here's a sneak into my notes from kindle: "I don't know how I feel about Tatum, but she better have a good ass excuse. But if Megan can turn max into my favorite character than surely she can do the same to Tate."
And boy was I right. Everyone has their own logical way of reasoning, and sometimes their reasoning harms or heals others, but there are consequences nonetheless. And that is the bases where Cam and Tate are concerned. Make It Last is about overcoming insecurities, accepting help, forgiving and forgetting the past, and looking toward the bright future.
