Mini-Review: The Year We Hid Away

Mini-Review: The Opposite of Nothing
First thing first, I still can't believe how short this book was. BUT I do love how short it was. Being 100 pages long/short, there wasn't room for unnecessary outside forces to come into play and make things worse between Callie and Tayber, except one. The story stayed true to them and the problem they shared.
Okay when I started this book I immediately thought "Oop she's dreaming," followed by "WAIT NO WHY ISNT SHE WAKING UP." Guys, let me tell you that second hand embarrassment is a legit thing.
Holy shucks guys. The scenes with Sasha. Those were perfect. Honestly, the first thing that came to my head while reading Sasha's and Tayber's interaction was that it's like A Cinderella Story (the one with Hillary Duff) but more porny computer interaction and they were good friends to begin with.
Finally, what I really liked about Tayber and Callie's relationship (except toward the end) was that when they did do sexual things the next moment they didn't try to do the "just forget what happened" move. Callie asked questions about what this would do to their friendship, and Tayber freely answered them, where I felt like a guy would have tried to evade the questions.
They both wanted something more from the other, but didn't know how to approach the subject. Sometimes the risk is worth it.

The Friend Zone

Gray drives Ivy crazy. He's irreverent, sex on a stick, and completely off limits. Because, Ivy has one golden rule: never get involved with one of her father's clients. A rule that's proving harder to keep now that Gray is doing his best to seduce her. Her best friend is fast becoming the most irresistible guy she's ever met.
Which means Gray is going to have to use all his skills to win Ivy's heart. Game on.
Review: Holy Jesus. I honestly can't think of anything to say other than that I absolutely loved The Friend Zone. Like *heart eyes*, heart pumping so hard, *dreamy sigh*, extremities tingling loved this book. If this book was a person, I would want to marry him and have sex with him everyday. Guys, even with those descriptions, I don't think y'all understand how much I loved this book. Just know, this book is perfect.
Gray and Ivy were on a whole other level.
From the prologue, I was smiling and laughing and just knew this book was going to be at the top of all my lists. Their banter and the way they acted around each other was beautiful. What I loved was that they started off as friends. Not just any "friends" but they were the kind of BEST FRIENDS that when they talk to each other they can't help but spill their guts. Since before their meeting, their relationship was based off of trust and nothing else. Through messages they lifted each other up and made each other's day. But besides when they were together it was when they were apart that I fell in love with them even more.
Ivy is, in a sense, jaded. Her father is a sports agent and her mother is a baker. If you're asking me that just seems like too much opposite doesn't attract for long. Seeing her father go off so many times either for work or something else made her think that she may not be enough. Besides that, her relationship with her sister was so on point. There are times when the only person you can turn to is family, because they understand you the most and that's what Ivy does. If anything, that's what makes her character even more believable, that's what makes this book even more believable.
Gray is sort of like the injured dog you see at an animal shelter, he's just waiting to be loved and cared for. He has gone through so much in his younger years that the way he behaves and thinks is his way of coping. He cares for everyone, pretty much like a Mama Bear for all the football players that you can't help but fall in love with.

Seriously I need a paperback version of this book and I usually don't buy PB of ebooks that I have. THAT SHOWS MUCH LOVED IT.

Mini-Review: Getting Lucky Number Seven
The characters were great and a lot of fun to get to know. Lyla's personality is a lot like mine, minus the cats add in dogs. And Beck is relatable, to a point, because he's the kind of friend that would drop everything for a friend in need especially one that he cares about.
Reading about Beck and Lyla's relationship, one could tell that there was chemistry even from the beginning. And it just goes to show that everyone should say a joke when they meet someone new, at least in books. Also, the fact that Beck and Lyla kept the friendly relationship they made inside the classroom with them when they were outside that environment. The friendship was believable.
And if you ask me, that's how everything should start, with a real friendship, before jumping into something deeper. GLN7 revolves around that friendship and the trust that is made.
Getting Lucky Number 7 was good. If you love friends to lovers, HOCKEY players (who doesn't???), and cats then this book is yours.

Mini-Review: Second Position
It took me a lot longer than I thought it would to read Second Position. My goal was to have this review up on Thursday, but it seems as if every time that I tried reading I would end up falling asleep. That's either because I would pick the book up at 10PM or because the syntax was lyrical. I'm betting on the latter.
The writing wasn't the best nor was it bad. It's a lot different from what I'm used to and that took a while to get into. Once I got the hang of the sway, I started to really appreciate the writing and enjoy the story. Katherine Locke's writing is very straight forward and to the point and yet somehow unclear at the same time. I couldn't help but love that.
Aly and Zed were something else together. From the very first chapter you know there is something deep and confusing about the two. Throughout the book you realize how very little you know about these characters. It's like looking at a glacier, we only see the tip when there's so much more that we don't see. That's a lot how Aly and Zed are, especially Aly.
We see Aly's problems, we're witnesses of her actions because of her condition and yet we don't really understand why. In Second Position it does say why, don't get me wrong, but it fells like there are more reasons than what's being told to us or maybe it's just me wanting to know more.
Second position is a great read. But you kind of have to be in the mood to read it because it's not all rainbows and sunshine.

Mini-Review: All About Us

Review: All About Us was an enjoyable read. I wouldn't say it was the best book, but it's a good book to pass the time. The writing takes a while to get used to, but once the hang of it comes it's interesting.
One thing that was frustrating me to no end about Dane and Emma's relationship was that they didn't talk. Yeah they talked about the past and their problems in that past, but they didn't talk about themselves as a relationship. They know they were perfect for each other yet they let the simplest problems get to them.
Over all Emma and Dane's relationship was interesting to explore. Emma's main goal is to cope and Dane's main goal is to help her. As they grow closer together they realize how much they need each other.
All About Us was an enjoyable read. Like horses? Grab this. Like romance? Grab this. Romance and horses are a good mix.

Review: My friend Ashley told me about this book about a week before its release pretty much saying that I had to read it. Guys, I never turn down her recommendations. So on Wednesday morning (more like 1 AM), when I had just finished writing a review for another book & not feeling sleepy, I bought this beauty.
Of course I read the synopsis before actually buying the book to see if I'd be interested. Guys I was already flailing FROM THE SYNOPSIS. Two things: 1) Fake Relationship tropes are my ABSOLUTE favorite (I don't know exactly why but they are) & 2) I have fallen in love with sports romance that involve hockey (honestly I'm good for all/any sports romance but hockey has a special place in my heart). GUYS I HAD TO BUY IT. THERE WAS NO CHOICE.
Let me just come out and say that this book rocked my socks off. I LOST SLEEP OVER IT. I stayed up til five in the morning, on a school night mind you, because 1) I wanted to know how this would all play out and 2) I couldn't get enough of the heroine, Hannah.
Hannah is probably my favorite character of the year so far. As soon as I read the first line, I said "Preach!" Everything Hannah thought I agreed with because THOSE ARE MY THOUGHTS TO THE T. Hannah has a bright head on her shoulders, she's blunt, she takes no shit and she's feisty as hell. Honestly, how can you not love her within the first chapter? But my absolute favorite characteristic about Hannah is that she doesn't let what happen in the past affect her three years later. She's learned to cope with what when on and for the most part move on.
Now Garrett is his own amazing intricate character. He's the character that you think has no problems and is care free, but once we take a closer look it's obvious how nothing is as it seems. As Hannah starts getting more involved with his life we see how flawed he is and how flawed she is. But that's not to mean that "flawed" is a bad this, everyone is flawed.
One aspect of Hannah and Garrett's relationship is that it is so unconventional. People believe Garrett to be more about the hook up than the actual relationship, he just needed to find that one person that he can trust with his life to open up. Hannah herself had list of what she wanted in a guy (who didn't at one point in their lives?). Upon becoming actual friends with Garrett than having something a little more, she realized that no one is ever going to match her list and that as she gets closer to Garrett a new list forms of what she wants; she never would have thought of anything to add to that new list if it wasn't for meeting someone else. We think we know what we want in our lives but in the end, we really don't.
The Deal was seriously amazing. I thought I knew what to expect when I bought this book, but I didn't. It isn't your typical fake relationship or even a typical relationship (I would know, I've read many). Quite honestly, The Deal was a breath of fresh air.
And after two weeks from finishing this book, I'm still gushing about these loveable characters (all the daily). They never cease to make me smile.

Review: At the time I am writing this, it is one AM on a school night, and I "forgot" about my essay that's due this week to finish this baby. Worth. It. (Also, since it's one AM, I'm pretty sure there will be grammar and spelling mishaps, and I'll be too lazy to revise, so bare with me).
I will say this from the get go, I did not believe there was ever going to be a HEA for these two. Y'all would think I'd be the hopeless romantic and hope for that heavenly HEA, but, come on, the odds were stacked against them. I thought surely they couldn't go all the way. And they didn't, but then they did. It's not your typical HEA but it's one nonetheless.
The whole premise of Becoming Rain had be intrigued. A female cop? How can I object to that?! Undercoverness AND a really cute guy??? How could I ask for more?! But on a serious note (or as serious as one can be at one AM), this book amazed me.
That's not to say that this suspense novel was really "suspenseful." All the clues were given if you were looking for them, but if you weren't then you're in for quite a few surprises. Becoming Rain amazed me because of one of its characters: Clara.
But let's talk about Luke first. I really did like the guy, but I didn't love him, at least not as much as I loved Clara (seriously, she would be my #womancrushwednesday). He had his redeeming qualities which I really adored, but for the most part I felt worried and sorry for the guy. He was so out of the loop and then everything started falling apart and I just wanted to give him a huge bear hug. But also high five Clara.
Clara. Clara. Clara. (Was it only me that said Clara the same way Doctor says it? [Doctor from Doctor Who if you couldn't figure that out]). I freaking loved Clara. She's goal oriented, but also has a life. She wants to succeed in life and knows the commitment it takes. However, she knows that obstacles, whether beneficial or not, get in the way. For the most part, she's confident in the direction she's going, but also scared shitless (I mean seriously who wouldn't be in her situation). How she dealt with half the actions that go on in this book baffles me but not because it doesn't make sense, but the opposite. I saw how much time she put in for one step. I'm so used to woman going irrational in smaller circumstances than Clara's. I couldn't help but admiregher for her straight-headedness (that's a word right?). Other than letting emotions rule her sexual life, Clara is very much a role model when it comes to her career.
Becoming Rain was intriguing. I wanted to know how this story would play out from the first chapter. I felt for each character, as well as easily felt how they were feeling. Clara is awesome and Luke is great. Also it was really enjoyable seeing old characters come back. If you want awesome female character and a little suspense in your life, grab this book.

Mini Review: Still Beautiful
Throughout the whole book I kept saying, “This is so me. THIS right there is what I would have done. SHE IS MY SPIRIT ANIMAL.” Oh gosh, this book gives me hope in my future. Yeah, it's a fictional story, but it's a real life possibility! And that possibility can happen to me, or y'all. So you understand when I say that the book gives me hope. If a character can conquer her fears and internal problems, then why can't I?
